Earlier today, the news everyone here at theFashionSpot has been waiting on for months (if not years) finally dropped. Sabato De Sarno is out at Gucci as creative director, after just two years. De Sarno joined the Italian fashion house as creative director in January of 2023. In September of the same year, De Sarno presented his highly-anticipated debut collection during the Spring 2024 season of Milan Fashion Week. Collections and campaigns under the designer’s control have proved somewhat… questionable. The Kering-owned label reported nine-month sales down 21% in 2024. De Sarno’s departure is effective immediately. The upcoming Fall 2025 collection will go ahead as planned during MFW later this month, but will be presented by the Gucci design studio. A replacement has not yet been announced.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“WE WON!” [Chipmetrai]

“Our prayers have been answered. Today should be a national holiday in Italy, no the world. Sabagone and never come back!” [ellarchivist]

“Damn… I mean we all knew this was just a matter of time, but I thought they would at least wait for his contract to end, if anything just to save some face. Those numbers must’ve been BLEAK. This a flop that is going to the history books, I almost feel bad for him.” [Marc10]

“Zero surprise, zero regrets, zero talent.” [Olaffo]

“De Sarno will be remembered for one color. No, rather for one word: ANCORA! To think that they redesigned the stores and all. My god! To fire him three weeks before the show is quite ruthless…” [Lola701]

“Womp womp. He surely won’t be missed. I guess you could say the stocks are bleeding Ancora red…” [Armani]

“Just an all around embarrassment.” [VogueDisciple93]
