Janelle Monae took structures and silhouettes to another level while attending the 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards (CDGA). On February 6, the singer turned up in an unbelievably dramatic suit at the event held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. Monae transformed into an almost prism and stole the spotlight in a Viktor&Rolf creation for the occasion.

Janelle Monae showed up at the 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards dressed as an almost walking prism. The 39-year-old wore an eccentric geometric look from the Viktor&Rolf Autumn/Winter 2024 Haute Couture collection, which was “created from the desire to express a certain absurdism.” The couture silhouettes drew inspiration from the designers’ breakthrough F/W 1998 ‘Atomic Bomb’ collection. The collection depicted the intersection of the human body with three-dimensional and abstract geometric shapes.
The black and white structured jacket that Monae wore formed a bold triangular silhouette. The checkered silk shirt featured exaggerated and pointed, raised shoulders. The same appeared across the bodice instead of a flat, body-holding design. The blazer also had hints of color on the lapel, featuring light peach and mint satin lining. In tune with that, a lavender satin bowtie topped the look.
The blazer was paired with a formal black and white check miniskirt. Moreover, a series of white buttons adorned the piece. Apart from the dramatic outfit, Monae’s stylish ensemble included white socks and black, shiny loafer heels. The singer accessorized the look with a black handbag featuring gold accents. She also wore a pair of earrings to round off the ensemble.
As for her glam, Monae rocked eyeliner and shimmery eyeshadow and paired the makeup look with cherry lipstick. She also embraced her buttery curls shine for the evening. Meanwhile, Monae arrived on stage as she was honored with the Vanguard Spotlight Award at the ceremony.
