Limit Break Comics Launches Eco-Themed Open-Call for Cryptid Comics from Comic book Yeti Byron O’Neal

Dublin, 05 February 2025 – Irish Comic Collective Limit Break Comics have

announced the Open Call for their fifth anthology, Bump in the Night, putting an eco-horror spin on cryptids.

Limit Break Comics, best known for its myth anthologies since 2021, has opened its fifth open call for pitches of short comics to Bump in the Night. The anthology will combine an eco-themed horror approach to narrative with well-known cryptids, focusing on nature vs society. The anthology will be edited by Paul Carroll, with a Kickstarter campaign planned for May 2025, and a launch in November 2025.

Inspired by titles such Princess Mononoke by Studio Ghibli and Wild Spaces by EL Coney, the open call allows creators from all over the world to put a unique spin on their favourite creatures from cryptozoology at a time when global crises as a result of climate change are becoming more frequent.

This anthology has been at the back of my mind for a few years, but it has never felt more relevant, between the fires in LA, record-breaking global temperatures and associated downpours, droughts, floods, and storms every other week. My hope is that creators will look at the world around them to tell a story in response to the looming disasters on the horizon. I’m not looking for massive world-ending narratives or something that will keep readers up all night. Maybe just some of the night. I want readers to think about what the cryptid stands for, and what they can do to avert similar such disasters in their own lives. Something this big takes a lot of collective willpower to make it happen.
Editor Paul Carroll

This will be Carroll’s fifth anthology with Limit Break Comics, launching a series of myth-inspired books with the collective’s 2021 title, Turning Roads. Following an initial trilogy of classic folklore books, the Editor turned towards modern mythology for inspiration. Bump in the Night follows Wish Upon a Star, which funded in 2024 and is launching in Spring 2025.

As with each of the previous books, the anthology will feature cover art by an Irish professional comic book artist. Bump in the Night’s cover will be drawn by Danny Earls, the football player-turned comic book pro whose career launched in 2023. Earls has since worked on titles including Incredible Hulk, Alien, Punisher, Darth Vader, Batman and Superman, and won the 2024 Ringo Award for Fan Favorite New Talent.
